MEET THE NEW MMCF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation (MMCF) announced the appointment of Thomas Bissell as its new Executive Director. A longtime resident of Mammoth Lakes with a passion for youth and community development, Bissell brings a dynamic mix of operational leadership, entrepreneurial expertise and love for the region to the position.
As Executive Director, Bissell will oversee the Foundation’s programs, staff, fundraising and community partnerships. His focus will include expanding access to youth education and athletic opportunities, advancing mental health and resilience initiatives, as well as fostering strategic collaborations throughout the Eastern Sierra.
“Tom brings energy, strategic vision and deep commitment to our mission and community, making him the ideal leader to champion MMCF in its next chapter. We are proud to welcome Tom into this important role.”
Bissell has a rich and varied background that spans public service and business leadership. A former firefighter and paramedic, he later launched and led several successful ventures focused on growth strategy, branding and operations. Bissell’s experience in both start-up and scale-up environments has equipped him for his new position as Executive Director.
“I’m ready to step into this role and help further MMCF’s mission of creating a best-in-class mountain community. As a father of two children actively involved in MMCF programming, I’ve witnessed firsthand the organization’s remarkable impact. It’s a true honor to join such a dedicated group of board members, staff, volunteers and donors, all committed to making a meaningful difference in our community. Together, we’re poised to achieve great things.”
Bissell lives in Mammoth Lakes with his wife, Mary - a pediatrician at Mammoth Hospital - and their two children, Quinn and Willy. He is fluent in Spanish and deeply connected to the community through both personal and professional ties.
Founded in 2009, the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation guides, funds, and offers resources for addressing community priorities throughout California’s Eastern Sierra, ensuring that youth and families have access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.
