WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
featuring Katie Wilson
Katie Wilson is no stranger to Mammoth Mountain or the wonder of living in the Eastern Sierra. Her dad, Brian Wilson, has been a long term Mammoth Mountain employee, working for the Host Department. As one of MMCF’s Senior scholarship recipients, we thought we would find out how Katie has been doing since graduating from Mammoth High School last June, 2021.
Katie has just finished her first semester at California State University, Long Beach as a declared major in Kinesiology, hoping to add a minor in Business. She plans on becoming a Sports Therapist inspired by her love of working out and helping others better their own physical health. Taking Cerro Coso classes while attending Mammoth High School, Katie was able to earn 40 college credits. This has been valuable as she will possibly graduate from college early, saving money on tuition. Because of her experience at Cerro Coso, she was “familiar with the way college classes work.”
Katie lives in a dorm and has one roommate. She likes dorm life being surrounded by people all her own age. Going from Mammoth Lakes to Long Beach has been an exciting change. While CSULB is a large university, Katie has joined Greek life, bringing her school community into a smaller circle. She has pledged Delta Gamma, whose philanthropy is Service for Sight. An avid volunteer, Katie learned in high school the importance of people helping their community and admires the leaders of volunteer organizations for their passion to help others. Being a part of Delta Gamma will be a great avenue for her to continue her desire to “give back.”
Community scholarships, such as MMCF, have had a big impact entering college life, and she is very thankful for that!
