2023 COMMUNITY SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, MMCF participates in the Community Senior Scholarships as one of the sponsors.  These are scholarships awarded to deserving seniors of Mammoth High School from willing sponsors of Mammoth Lakes.  Sponsors include businesses, non-profit organizations, individual family scholarships and establishments in Mammoth Lakes.  This year there were 34 sponsors from the community participating.

Every senior of MHS is given the opportunity to fill out an application for this award.  The application is much like a college application and compiles each applicant's profile including academic status (transcripts included), club and athletic involvement  throughout high school, volunteer activities, work experience, schools they are applying to, and their interest in a major or vocational career.  The application has an essay prompt and the students are also able to attach multiple essays they have submitted in their college applications.  Each participating sponsor has their own criteria in determining who will be awarded their scholarship.

The awards are given at the Senior Awards and Scholarship dinner which took place on Thursday evening, June 8 in the Mammoth High School gym.  Tamara Bankson, Dr. Sierra Bourne and Lora Wehsener attended and presented awards on behalf of MMCF.

This year MMCF awarded an unprecedented $44,500 to 21 stand out seniors to go towards their future education whether university or trade school.

Our scholarships support students from all different backgrounds, some from strongly educated families and others who will be first generation college students.  The recipients have plans to attend in-state and out of state colleges and universities, including Cal State and UC campuses, Community College of Denver, Purdue University, Montana State University, Arizona State University and Cerro Coso.  The subjects of study and career interests of these graduates are public health (including pediatric doctor and registered nursing), therapy (licensed and physical) music education, engineering (specifically software engineering, aerospace engineering and chemical engineering), law enforcement, financial advisor,  business marketing, chemistry, military aviation, child development, environmental science.

We are thankful to our donors for their contributions so that we can partner with the community to award our students much needed financial assistance to go towards their secondary education.
